the al smith dinner became a tradition already, in which politicians and people from all sides of the aisle come together and put all politics aside, and just joke around.
and thats exactly what happened that night in NYC. obama and romney both gave very good speeches with very cool and light hearted jokes.
It was actually quite a surprise for all the pundits of the main stream media to see how well Romney did. All perceptions about Romney being a boring etc. person flew right out the window. He gave a solid performance which everyone enjoyed.
I wont go in and try to analyze which of those two had more exciting jokes, cuz im holding myself on a bit higher level than lawrence O'donnel and all of the MSNBC pundits.
Yup, believe it or not. lawrence O'donnel went on his show and started analyzing both speeches, and to no ones surprise, he of course found fault in everything that Romney said. And yes... Everything Obama said was cute and amazing!
I won't even try to debunk all of his stupidness that he utters overthere, it'll be way to stupid for me to even argue with him. So I'll just use the words of joe Biden, "malarkey".
I'll link for you the msnbc page, just that you can see how many deranged people there are on that TV network. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/lawrence-odonnell-and-panel-overanalyze-obama-romneys-al-smith-jokes-to-death/
i will just post one tweet here where youll see that Chris Matthews actually very much enjoyed mitt romney's performance. (Yup, surprise!) tweet number 1 from @zekejmiller "Chris Matthews just gave mitt Romney a standing ovation". Tweet number 2 "this
speech needs a split screen. No,not Romney-Obama but Romney-Chris Matthews. (I think that shouldve told you everything already about how solid romney's performance was.)
so ill just post for you a few jokes from both candidates speeches, together with the video of both speeches, and Youll see for yourself what went on there.
so here we go.
first was the turn of Al Smith IV. he sent a biting joke to POTUS: "It's never good when your opponent has produced more sons than you've produced jobs.
then came romneys turn, and he took up the job of joker in chief very effectively.
heres a few nuggets. 1. Romney on Cuomo: "He's had 1 term as a governor, he had a father who was a governor, and he thinks that that's enough to run for president!2. Romney says it's good to have someone to lean on for support. "I have my beautiful wife Ann, he has Bill Clinton.
3. Romney on the press: "My job is to lay out a positive vision for the country, & their job is to make sure no one else finds out about it.
4. Romney says that the media headlines when he pulled ahead in polls were: "Polls show Obama leading from behind".
5. More Romney media humor: Headline from tonight's dinner will be "Obama embraced by Catholics; Romney dines with rich people".
and then came obamas turn.
here you go. 1. Obama: "Everybody please take your seats, otherwise Clint Eastwood will yell at them." 2. Obama on why his 2nd debate was better: "I felt really well rested after the nice long nap I had in the first debate.
3. Obama on Yankees Stadium: "the house that Ruth built, although he really did not build that. I hope everybody's aware of that.
4. Obama: "Actually, Mitt is his middle name. I wish I could use my middle name."
5. Obama: "For our final debate we're going to go back to the strategy [of] 1st debate. I'm just kidding, trying to get Axelrod to sweat"
6. Obama says that New Yorkers have a big choice this November. You have to decide which one of us you want holding up the traffic for the next four years.

One thing I will allow myself to say because I saw it on twitter, and I'll post for you the difference that you should see it for yourself. RT @markknoller: Obama stands and slaps Romney on the shoulder as he concludes his remarks and returns to his seat. RT @markknoller: Hearty handshake from Mitt Romney as Pres Obama concludes his remarks. So apparently while mitt Romney gave Obama a hearty hand shake after his speech, Obama wasn't able to look his rival in the eye, and he just patted him on the shoulder. Ok.
I'll conclude with a joke that went around after the dinner. Undecided voter at al smith dinner: I wanted to hear jokes from both candidates with more specifics...
Enjoy
